Eventbrite: Getting Opt-Ins from Event Attendees

How to capture opt-ins in Eventbrite and ensure they are correctly recorded against constituent records.

When attendees register for an Eventbrite event, you can include custom questions on the order form to ask for consent to future communications. These opt-ins can then be mapped into Donorfy so that communication preferences are updated automatically on the matching constituent record.

โš ๏ธ Important:
Only opt-ins (Yes-type answers) will update communication preferences in Donorfy. Opt-outs (No-type answers) will not override existing preferences.

Set Up Opt-In Questions in Eventbrite

To collect consent from attendees, you must add a custom question to your Eventbrite event order form.

  1. Open your event in Eventbrite and go to the Order Form settings.

  2. Add a custom question asking attendees if they would like to hear from you again.

  3. Configure the question using one of the supported answer formats described below.

  4. Save your changes.

Map Eventbrite Questions to Donorfy Preferences

Once your Eventbrite event is linked to a Donorfy Campaign, you can map attendee responses to Donorfy communication settings.

  1. Open the relevant Campaign in Donorfy.

  2. Select the Eventbrite tab.

  3. In the question-mapping section, choose up to three Eventbrite questions.

  4. Map each question to a Channel (e.g. Email, Phone) and/or a Purpose (e.g. Fundraising, Newsletter).

  5. Save the campaign.

Only Eventbrite questions with recognisable Yes/No-style answers will be available for mapping.

Supported Question and Answer Formats

For an Eventbrite question to be recognised by Donorfy, it must meet one of the following criteria.

Single Checkbox Questions

  • A single checkbox counts as an opt-in when ticked.

  • The wording of the checkbox answer does not matter.

Multiple-Choice Questions

For questions with multiple answers:

Any answer starting with the following (case-insensitive) is treated as an opt-in:

  • Yes.

  • I agree.

Any answer starting with the following is treated as an opt-out:

  • No.

  • I donโ€™t agree.

How Donorfy Applies Opt-Ins

When attendee data is received from Eventbrite:

  • Yes / opt-in answers
Update the mapped Channel and/or Purpose on the constituent record in Donorfy.

  • No / opt-out answers
Do not change existing preferences in Donorfy.

This behaviour is intentional. It allows you to decide whether an opt-out given via a third-party platform like Eventbrite should count as a full opt-out in your preference centre.
