Facebook’s Giving Tools allow verified nonprofits to collect donations directly within Facebook and Instagram. You can add Donate buttons to your Page, Posts, and Live Videos, and supporters can create their own Fundraisers—such as Birthday Fundraisers,so their friends and family can donate to your cause.

Donations made through Facebook Giving Tools are free from processing or transaction fees, meaning you receive 100% of the donation.

📌 Note:
Donors can opt into Gift Aid. Facebook does not collect Gift Aid, but Donorfy will, this feature is available on the Professional plan.

Ways Supporters Can Donate

Supporters can give through several Facebook and Instagram features:

  • Donate button on user posts: When a follower adds a donate button to their own post.

  • Donate button on your charity’s Facebook Page: From the button displayed on the Page header.

  • Donate button on charity posts: Donations from your charity’s own posts that include a donate button.

  • Video fundraiser: When a user adds a donate button to their live video.

  • Fundraisers: Donations from user-created Fundraisers like Birthday Fundraisers, Messenger prompts, or profile frames.

  • Instagram donation sticker: Donations made through a sticker added to a user’s Instagram story.

How Donations Are Supported in Donorfy

Integrating Facebook Giving Tools with Donorfy lets you see donation and fundraiser activity inside constituent timelines, contributing to a full 360-degree supporter view.

This integration is available on both the Essentials and Professional plans.

📌 Note:
Facebook only pays out in EUR, GBP, and USD. If your Donorfy default currency differs from your Facebook payout currency, you can enable optional currency conversion during import and provide the exchange rate.

Verify Your Charity With Facebook

To use Facebook Giving Tools, your organisation must first complete Facebook’s nonprofit verification process:

This process requires documentation and may take several weeks, especially if information is incomplete or inaccurate.
Once verification is approved, you can begin placing Donate buttons and encouraging supporters to create Fundraisers.

How the Integration Works

Once you are verified and receiving donations:

  1. Export the multi-day transaction report from Facebook.

  2. Import the report into Donorfy using the Facebook Giving Tools file uploader.

  3. Donations are assigned to your default Campaign, Product, Fund, and Department, based on your settings.

📌 Note:
You can override these defaults for specific Fundraisers or Donate buttons to ensure accurate attribution.

Soft-Crediting Fundraisers

For supporter-created Fundraisers (e.g., Birthday Fundraisers), you can assign the Fundraiser to a Constituent in Donorfy.
All donations to that Fundraiser will then be automatically soft-credited to that Constituent.
