Check Your Gift Aid Settings
Review each item below and update your Gift Aid Settings as required.
Verify that your organisation is registered for Charities Online within your Government Gateway account.
Log in, Select Add a tax or service click Gift Aid if not already enabled.
Ensure Gift Aid Submit to Live Gateway is set to Yes.
Confirm the Organisation Name exactly matches HMRC’s records.
Check that your Charity Number is correct.
Verify your User ID and Password for HMRC submission.
Confirm the HMRC Reference is correct.
Ensure the Authorised Person is the primary individual registered with HMRC—not just a user with access.
Check the spelling of the Authorised Person’s Title, First Name, and Last Name.
Verify the Postcode of the Authorised Person.
Ensure the Phone Number is correct and formatted properly.
📌 Note:
HMRC validation is extremely strict. Errors such as a lowercase letter in Mr, missing spaces in phone numbers, or punctuation in names can cause the entire claim to fail.
If you have corrected all details and the claim still fails, contact HMRC directly on 0300 123 1073 to verify what they hold on record.
What Happens After a Rejected Claim
If HMRC rejects the claim via the online gateway, Donorfy will:
Return all donations from the rejected claim.
Add them back into your Active Claim during the next update.
You can then correct any issues and resubmit.
Rejection Outside the HMRC Gateway
If HMRC rejects your submission by email or letter, this means the claim passed authentication but failed at a later manual review stage.
In this case, you must:
Resolve the issue identified by HMRC.
Resubmit the rejected donations directly using the R68 Schedule Form available on the HMRC website.
⚠️Important:
The automated Gift Aid Claims process is available with Starter, Professional and Enterprise plans. Essential subscribers, please contact us to find out more about upgrading.
