When a supporter donates using a Web Widget or a campaign donation page, Donorfy automatically attempts to match the donation to an existing constituent using the same logic as duplicate checking.

How Donorfy Matches Constituents

Donorfy evaluates the supporter’s details and compares them with existing constituents.

Matching Rules

  • If one or more constituents have a duplicate confidence score of 13 or higher, Donorfy links the donation to the best match.

  • If no match meets the threshold, Donorfy creates a new constituent and links the donation to that profile.

How Existing Constituent Records Are Updated

When a single existing constituent is matched, Donorfy updates the record using the information provided in the form submission.

Updates include:

  • Postal address: Added only if the existing constituent has no postal address.

  • Phone and email: Added to available empty fields, if supplied.

  • Channel permissions: Updated based on the supporter’s responses.

  • Tags: Added when selected in the form. Existing tags are not removed.

When Multiple Potential Matches Are Found

If more than one constituent meets the matching threshold, the donation is flagged for review:

  1. Navigate to Financial, click Online Donations.

  2. Locate donations listed as To be Resolved.

  3. Select the correct constituent.

  4. Donorfy updates the chosen constituent using the standard update rules listed above.
