Membership Status helps you filter, communicate with, and bulk-cancel memberships, while Payment Status controls whether payments are collected.
Understand Membership vs Payment Status
The two statuses serve different purposes:
Payment Status is used to control the collection of payments.
Membership Status is used for filtering lists, communication purposes and bulk cancelation.
Set Up Membership Status Rules
Navigate to Membership Status Rules tab.
Click Add Membership Status Rule to create a new rule.
Fill in a meaningful rule name to describe the purpose.
Define the criteria that the membership status applies to.
Select the membership status to assign when the criteria will be met.
Click Save.
The Statuses you can apply are:
Overdue: The membership is active but payment is overdue.
To be Cancelled: The payment is significantly overdue and membership should be cancelled.

You can use To be Cancelled when preparing Memberships for Bulk Cancelation.
Apply the Membership Status Rules
Membership Status Rules run overnight and are applied to to the recurring payment instructions with payment status Active and Overdue.
The rules are applied as follows:
In the order shown on the tab under Membership.
If a membership meets the criteria of the rule the status will be updated
If a membership meets multiple criteria rules the first matching rule is applied.
Memberships that do not match any rule are assigned the Active Membership Status.
