SMS messages can be sent automatically through OnlineFundraising using Donorfy Triggers. This allows you to send personalised text messages to constituents whenever a trigger runs — for example, when a transaction is created or a constituent record is updated.
📌Note: This feature requires the OnlineFundraising integration. The Outbound SMS API key must be configured in your OnlineFundraising settings before SMS messages can be sent.
Before You Start: Create Your Trigger
For details on how to create a Trigger, please refer to this section in the Knowledge Base.
🤓Tip: When creating a Trigger, ensure that it is not set to Active. Only set the Trigger as Active when you are ready to test it or take it fully live.
Configure the SMS Action
From within the Actions section of your Trigger, add the action type Send an SMS to a constituent. When configuring the action, you specify the following:
Field | Description |
Channel | The SMS shortcode or channel to send from. |
Sender Alias | The name that appears as the sender (maximum 11 characters). |
Text Message | The message body (maximum 160 characters). Supports placeholder merge fields, for example {FirstName} or {Amount}. |
Pre-Send Checks
Before the SMS is sent, Donorfy automatically checks that all of the following conditions are met:
The constituent has the SMS channel marked as permitted.
The constituent has a mobile phone number on their Constituent Profile.
OnlineFundraising is connected and the Outbound SMS API key is configured in OnlineFundraising settings.
If any of these conditions are not met, the SMS will not be sent.
Delivery Tracking
After an SMS is sent, the OnlineFundraising platform sends a delivery callback to Donorfy. The Trigger run log is automatically updated to show whether the SMS was delivered successfully or failed.
