When a constituent replies to an SMS with an opt-out keyword (e.g. "STOP"), Donorfy will automatically update their SMS communication channel — no manual action is required.
What this means for you
There are no manual updates required to SMS preferences when someone opts out — it happens automatically in real time.
An audit trail (activity) is created on each affected constituent record so you can see when and why the opt-out occurred.
What happens when an opt-out is received
When Donorfy receives an opt-out message, it will:
Set the SMS communication channel to "not permitted" on every constituent whose mobile phone number matches the inbound message.
Create an activity record (of type "SMS Opt Out") on each matched constituent's Timeline, noting the phone number and the text that was received.
📌Note: Existing SMS preferences are unaffected until an opt-out message is actually received. If multiple constituents share the same mobile number, all of them will have their SMS channel set to not permitted and will each receive an activity record.
