Both are fantastic integrations offering flexibility and ease of use. See below how they compare to help you choose which one to use with your Donorfy account.
Action | Mailchimp | DotDigital |
Mapping Data | Tags and Preferences can be mapped. | Tags, Preferences and other fields can be mapped. |
Updates from Donorfy | Manual push using a List. | Manual push or to a schedule. |
Data on emails | Summary available on the Constituent's timeline when linked to a Campaign, but this data can't be reported on from Donorfy. | Adds an Activity to the Constituent's Timeline with emails, opens and clicks. |
Automations | Triggers can enroll them in a Mailchimp Costumer Journey or Classic Automation. | Triggers can enroll them in a DD program( Customer Journey). Can also use transactional emails. |
Accounts | Can link Donorfy to one Mailchimp account. | Can link Donorfy to multiple DotDigital accounts. |
Updating of Preferences to Donorfy | Any changes to a group in Mailchimp will be passed back into Donorfy (if the group is mapped). | Preferences changes within DotDigital are not updated in Donorfy. |
Bounces (from MC or DD) | Change log entry from Mailchimp to say that it has bounced and Personal Email 1 status is set to Bounced. | Activity added to Constituent timeline in Donorfy. |
Unsubscribes (from MC or DD) |
| Any mapped purpose in Donorfy will be set to No (red). Activity added to timeline. |
Unsubscribes from Donorfy | If the email channel is turned to red or the constituent is archived, the next sync from Donorfy to Mailchimp will unsubscribe them in Mailchimp. | Any change in preference in Donorfy will be transferred if the preference is mapped in the integration settings and the constituent is included in the sync. |
Re-subscribes from MC or DD | Where a re-subscription occurs in Mailchimp, the re-subscribe is sent to Donorfy. Similarly, a log is created and an Activity added to the Constituent profile. | Re-subscription should remove the constituent from DotDigital suppression list, enabling the send of communications. |
Re-subscribes from Donorfy | Where the re-subscribe is actioned from Donorfy, this will not send back to Mailchimp. Instead those will need to be manually re-subscribed in Mailchimp. | Dotdigital requires a stringent process for subscriptions so it is not possible to action this from Donorfy. |
Deleting a contact from MC or DD | Deleting profiles from Mailchimp will not delete them from Donorfy. However, this may not be the best course of action as when deleting from Mailchimp is permanent and cannot be undone easily. You may also find sync errors occurring with your List to the point that you will need to exclude those individuals from your List. If any of these constituents want to be re-added to receive emails, you would need to contact each person directly and ask them to re-subscribe via a Mailchimp form. | Deleting contacts from DotDigital does not affect their constituent record in Donorfy. |
