⚠️ Important:
A Sandbox is a separate account from your live Donorfy account. Changes made in a Sandbox do not affect live data, and changes made in live do not sync back to existing Sandboxes.

Understand What a Sandbox Is

A Sandbox is a separate Donorfy account created specifically for testing.

  1. Use a Sandbox to test processes, forms, widgets, integrations, and API activity.

  2. Avoid risking data integrity in your live Donorfy account.

The Sandbox is created as a copy of your live account without any constituent data.

Know What Data Is Copied into a Sandbox

When a Sandbox is created, selected configuration data is copied from your live account.

This includes:

  1. Opportunities and Membership settings, including rules.

  2. Campaigns, campaign items, and campaign segments.

  3. Lists, Forms, and Triggers.

  4. Financial settings, including batch templates and Gift Aid settings.

  5. Integration settings, including Eventbrite, JustGiving, Mailchimp, DotDigital, OnlineFundraising, and others.

  6. User settings, where only the creator is copied initially.

  7. Account settings, including organisation details and billing configuration.

  8. API configuration, with a sandbox-specific API key.

πŸ“Œ Note:
The organisation name in the Sandbox is suffixed with [Sandbox] and the creation date and time.

Understand Integration Behaviour in a Sandbox

Integration settings are copied exactly as they exist in your live account.

⚠️ Important:
Integrations will continue to receive live data, such as new donations or email signups, unless you remove the integration credentials in the Sandbox.

To stop live data flowing into a Sandbox:

  1. Open the integration settings in the Sandbox only.

  2. Remove the API key by overtyping it with a space.

  3. Click Save Changes.

Be Aware of Sandbox Limitations

Sandboxes have some intentional restrictions.

You cannot:

  1. Process GoCardless Direct Debit collections.

  2. Process Stripe payments through forms or widgets.

  3. Submit Gift Aid claims.
You can create as many Sandbox accounts as you need.

Create a Sandbox Account

You can create a Sandbox directly from your live Donorfy account.

  1. Go to Settings, then click Account, then click Sandboxes.

  2. Click Create a New Sandbox.

  3. Click Yes to confirm.

After confirmation:

  • A banner displays confirming the request.

  • A confirmation email is sent once the Sandbox is ready.

  • Administrators can log in using their usual credentials.

  • The Sandbox appears as a separate account.

  • A red banner at the top of the screen indicates you are in a Sandbox.

Delete a Sandbox Account

Sandboxes can be deleted when no longer required.

  1. Go to Settings, then click Account, then click Sandboxes.

  2. Locate the Sandbox you want to remove.

  3. Click the red Delete icon.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

A confirmation email is sent once the Sandbox is deleted.

What does it Costs

The monthly cost to create a Sandbox account is detailed here: Donorfy Sandbox Pricing

Any Constituent data added to the account will also be counted toward your monthly constituent numbers and will be billed accordingly.

⚠️Important:

  • Sandboxes are a Professional only feature. Essential subscribers, please contact us to find out more about upgrading.

  • To create a Sandbox account you will require Administrator permissions.
