Donorfy provides tools to help you comply with GDPR by managing constituent preferences, capturing consent, and controlling how you communicate with supporters. Getting started involves configuring your Preference Centre and,if needed, setting up a consent-gathering campaign.

Step 1: Configure the Preference Centre

A constituent’s Preference Centre contains three key areas. Each must be configured to match your organisation’s GDPR and communication strategy.

Channels

Channels define the methods you can use to contact a constituent, such as post or email.

  • Donorfy includes default channels: Email, Mail, Phone, SMS.

  • You can amend these or create additional channels based on your needs.

  • To configure channels, see the related article below.

Purposes

Purposes define the reasons you may contact constituents. These should align with your GDPR-compliant communication categories—such as fundraising, events, policy updates, or volunteering.

  • Set up and customise your organisation’s Purposes in Donorfy.

  • Each Purpose can later be linked to consent records and communication activity.

Consent Statements

Consent Statements allow you to record and evidence the statements shown to constituents when requesting consent.

  • Link a Consent Statement to a web page or upload a document (e.g., donation form, event sign-up form).

  • Use these records to demonstrate GDPR compliance when reviewing audit trails.

Step 2: Collect or Confirm Consent (Optional)

If you wish to confirm or gather consent from existing constituents, you can run a campaign using the Self Service Preference Centre.

📌 Note:
The Self Service Preference Centre is available on the Professional Plan.

  1. Add the Preference Centre widget to your website so constituents can update their own preferences.

  2. Connect your email platform to Donorfy to send “Update Preferences” links.

  3. Direct supporters to the self-service form as part of your GDPR reconfirmation or onboarding journey.

To set up your preference Update Settings see this article.

To add the widget to your website see this article for more information.
