If a supporter wishes to reduce the amount of their regular donation or membership payment, you can update the Recurring Payment Instruction (RPI) directly from their Timeline. This article explains how to adjust the payment amount safely and correctly.

Before You Start

  • Ensure you have located the correct RPI on the constituent's Timeline.

  • If you have open batches containing transactions linked to this RPI, be aware that changing the amount will update those batch items.

🤓Tip: Post or close any open batches before making changes.

How to Decrease the Amount of an RPI

  1. Open the constituent’s Timeline.

  2. If needed, filter the view:

    • Select Recurring Payment Instructions under the Summary filter to display RPIs only.

  3. Locate and open the RPI you want to edit.

  4. In the Payment section:

    • Update the Amount field with the new, reduced total.

  5. In the Allocation section(s):

    • Update the Amount Due field(s) to reflect the revised amounts.

    • If there are multiple allocations, adjust each one accordingly so the sum matches the new total.

  6. Click Save Changes.

📌Note:

  • Updating the RPI amount will immediately apply to all future collection attempts.

  • Any open batches containing items for this RPI will inherit the new amounts, which may affect reconciliation or reporting if batches are not posted beforehand.
