If your organisation has recently switched Stripe accounts, for example, due to a merger, restructuring, or new contract, you will also need to update the Stripe connection within Donorfy. This ensures all online payments continue to flow correctly.

You should make this change during a quiet period to minimise disruption to donors and internal processes.

Disconnecting your current Stripe account will:

  • Stop any in-progress transactions, which may need to be completed manually in Donorfy.

  • Stop all Recurring Payment Instructions (RPIs) using Stripe—no further collections will occur until donors re-set them up or are migrated to another payment method.

Plan your switch carefully to avoid missed income.

Disconnect Your Current Stripe Account

  1. Follow the instructions in the article Disconnecting from Stripe.

  2. Once disconnected:

    • Transactions currently processing may not complete and may need to be recorded manually.

    • All Stripe-based RPIs stop collecting immediately.

Considerations before disconnecting

  • You may need to contact recurring donors to explain the change and provide a link to re-set their recurring donation.

  • This could be an opportunity to switch donors to Direct Debit if you already use GoCardless and have a Web Widget available.

  • In some cases, Stripe may be able to migrate customers and payment data to your new Stripe account. Contact your Stripe Account Manager for assistance.

Connect Your New Stripe Account

  1. Follow the instructions in Connecting to Stripe.

  2. Once connected:

    • Donorfy Forms and Campaign Donation Pages will begin using the new Stripe account immediately.

    • SCA-compliant Web Widgets will also resume working, with payments directed to the new account.

    • Test with a small transaction to confirm everything is working correctly.

If your Web Widgets are not SCA compliant

How to Check Whether Your Web Widgets Are SCA Compliant

Enter four sets of four 9 into the card number field.

  • If the number appears in red, your widget includes SCA validation and is compliant.

  • If not, you are using an older non-compliant widget and must upgrade before reconnecting Stripe.
